Malignant pleural mesothelioma: ESMO Clinical Practice Guidelines for diagnosis, treatment and follow-up☆ » Incidence of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is generally higher in males than females and is attributed to historical differences in exposures with world-standardised incidence rates per 100 000 persons of 0.7 and 0.3 in the United States and 1.7 and 0.4 for Europe (for males and females, respectively). Incidence is highest in countries with greatest previous asbestos use such as the Netherlands, UK and Australia.1 Due to a lag time of ∼40 years between exposure and presentation, alongside relatively recent usage bans, incidence continues to rise in many countries. The role of intracavitary therapies in the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma » Surgery is one of the steps of multimodality approach for the treatment of MPM. Due to anatomical features, microscopically radical (R0) resection is never possible and a Macroscopic Complete Resection (R1) is considered the target for mesothelioma surgeons.… Ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
Surgery in Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma » Surgical intervention plays an important role in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) and can be applied with curative or palliative intent. The overall aim of surgery should be, as in any oncologic surgery, the macroscopic complete resection (MCR) of the tumor. Most importantly, the majority of patients with the diagnosis of MPM should be appropriately staged and initially evaluated in a multidisciplinary setting, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, and surgery after histologic diagnosis. Interobserver Variability of Quantitative and Qualitative Assessment Using MRI in Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma - PubMed » Quantitative assessment can enhance the clinical staging of MPM. Compared with qualitative assessment, quantitative assessment has low interobserver variability and could yield a tumor size criterion that is currently lacking in the AJCC clinical staging of MPM.Supplemental material is available … Pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
Quantitative Clinical Staging for Patients With Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma » Analysis of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM) database revealed that clinical (cTNM) staging minimally stratified survival and was discrepant with pathological (pTNM) staging. To improve… Ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Treatment of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma: American Society of Clinical Oncology Clinical Practice Guideline » Purpose To provide evidence-based recommendations to practicing physicians and others on the management of malignant pleural mesothelioma. Methods ASCO convened an Expert Panel of medical oncology, thoracic surgery, radiation oncology, pulmonary, pathology, imaging, and advocacy experts to conduct a literature search, which included systematic reviews, meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and prospective and retrospective comparative observational studies published from 1990 through 2017. Outcomes of interest included survival, disease-free or recurrence-free survival, and quality of life. Expert Panel members used available evidence and informal consensus to develop evidence-based guideline recommendations. Results The literature search identified 222 relevant studies to inform the evidence base for this guideline. Recommendations Evidence-based recommendations were developed for diagnosis, staging, chemotherapy, surgical cytoreduction, radiation therapy, and multimodality therapy in patients with ma Ascopubs.org
